Military Veterans Museum - Oshkosh has many interesting and interesting places to visit, but you may not know about a very hidden place, the Military Museum and Education Center.
This museum is a great place to learn about history from the Civil War to today. You will see the real vehicles and tanks that our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents or even great-grandparents used when they served to protect freedom. You may have seen these cars at some of the summer parades in Northeast Wisconsin!

We contacted Dale Anderson, the museum's membership and marketing volunteer. Our discussion covered what to expect when you visit, ways to pay, some history, and interesting facts about the museum's artifacts. He gave a brief review of his time in the Army and even offered advice to those thinking of joining the Army or volunteering at the museum.
Julie Mcdonald Commentary: Facelift For Veterans Museum's Desert Fox Scheduled
Dale: Like many of our volunteers, I work multiple jobs. I am a member of the Board of Directors of the Military Veterans Museum and Education Center. I chair the Marketing and Membership/Volunteer Committees. I am a weekend docent at least one day a week. I study the signs we put on our exhibits at the museum. I inspect and help repair cars.
Dale: As we neared retirement, my wife and I explored opportunities, one of which was volunteering at a military museum. After visiting several museums within a 500 mile radius, we decided that Oshkosh and MVM were our best choices.
Dale: The museum currently has 22 vehicles, two of which are in our off-site storage, plus a flatbed. 20 of the 22 can run, and a few go to events every summer. We have vehicles from World War II to Desert Storm. The two most popular cars now are Brutus-Vietnam and 'Lil Brutus'.
Dale: The museum bought two cars. 11 of the cars were donated to the museum by the John Kuenzl Foundation. They also provided the sum of money that allowed us to build our current building. The rest of the cars were borrowed from the people of the district.
Memorial Day Weekend Is A Time To Remember
Dale: We send cars to parades and other events within 30 miles. One example is Appleton Flag Day. "Brutus" was calm and very popular. Museum items are maintained by volunteers, and the owners protect the borrowers.
Is it true that one of the museum's tanks was featured in the Disney/Marvel movie Ant-Man?
Dale: The museum used to have a Russian T34-85 tank from WWII. This tank was featured in the first Ant-Man movie. Two years ago, the keepers of the tank asked for it to be returned. Last we heard, it is now in storage in Door County, and may eventually go to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.
Dale: We have many exhibits that tell the story of veterans from the Civil War to today. Over the past two years, we have made great progress in expanding and improving these displays.
Local World War Ii Vets Honored By Long Island Tank Museum
Dale: We have an annual ticket sale from October to December. Drawings are drawn every Thursday for one gun or equivalent to be purchased at Scheels. We have a golf tournament every year. There are also annual dog tags where people pay $1 for a paper dog in places like bars and restaurants. Our fundraising committee has been very successful in raising money to cover operating costs and fund future expansion.
Dale: People can do a lot in a museum. We need gift shop cashiers, museum curators, building and grounds maintenance workers, auto repairers and restorers, and drivers. We have a fact sheet that describes all the features.
Dale: When they come to the museum, they can learn many stories about Wisconsin veterans who served their country.
Dale: After my military service, I was a dairy farmer for 17 years and then worked as a public health officer for the Wisconsin Department of Ag for 23 years. I am now retired. I have been married for 42 years. He is married with two sons and four grandchildren.
Veterans National Memorial Shrine & Museum
Dale: No, I was a mechanic at a shop that rebuilt engines and starters. I want to tell people that I defended the German gasthaus from the Russian invasion.
Dale: Joining the military can be a great experience. You will be taught teamwork and you will learn what kind of person you are. Military service helps them prepare for the future jobs they want to do later in life.
Dale, thank you for your service and taking the time to answer our readers' questions!
